QUESTION:
Should Believers pray for medical science?
ANSWER:
“Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?” [Jeremiah 8:22]
“The fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.” [Ezekiel 47:12]
“They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.” [Luke 5:31]
“When they find some kind of a serum, that'll--that'll help somebody, my, the newspapers publish it everywhere. My, penicillin, or something, oh, how they just flash it everywhere. This Salk vaccine, and so forth, how they flashed it everywhere, because they found something that would help people. I'm salute those people. God bless them. I'm so happy for that. But they'll publish that in every little newspaper throughout the nation. And Almighty God can make the blind to see, and the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak, and they'll turn it down and won't put it in the paper. Say, "It's fanaticism.” [Come, Let Us Reason Together, Chicago, IL 55-1004]
“Yes, they got real men in there. And they got some renegades too. And don't holler at them, 'cause we got some others, renegades, that calls themselves "reverend." That's exactly right. So sauce for the goose is for the gander. Yes, sir. A man's got toxin and--and Salk vaccine for these little children, and now polio. I pray daily that God will send us something for cancer. If we can't have faith, let's get something else. Faith is the first. Let's take the next best if we can't get that. Look at the world in the condition it's in: poor suffering humanity. Help everybody you can. Everything that helps is of God. Let's help; let's do everything we can and pray for men. The thing to do, brethren, is get our arms together, both medicine, doctors, hospitals, nurses, church, and all together, and put our faith in God and move forward. That's what we need. God's going to ask us why we didn't do it some of these days.” [Why? Bloomington, IL 61-0413]
“I believe that all healing comes from God. I do not condemn doctors. I think that doctors are God-sent to us. Hospitals and clinics, do I condemn them? I constantly pray for them, that God will give them knowledge to help poor suffering humanity. And I'm very grateful to God for everything that He's done, for penicillin, for the Salk vaccine, for everything that He's done, and pray that the hour will soon come when they'll find something to curb cancer and--and the other diseases. If it ever comes, it'll have to come through God alone. I think if we Christians would spend much time praying for that, we'd be better off, to the whole human race.” [Expectations And Leadings Of The Spirit, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada 57-0811e]
“There was a time when there wasn't any toxin on the earth for smallpox. Many died with smallpox, because there was no toxin. Diphtheria, no toxin, but now you can get inoculated from that. When an epidemic breaks out in the city, quickly you go down and get a smallpox vaccination or a diphtheria shot. They got toxin. I'm thankful for that. I'm glad of that. I'm glad we got it. And the Salk vaccine for little children, I thank the Lord for that. Pray that He will give us more and more.” [Why? Shreveport, LA 60-1126]
“I thank God for every serum that they got, for the Salk vaccine. Pray constantly that God will give us something for cancer, for poor suffering people. Anything can do to help, I'm for it. Yes, sir, I'm a hundred percent for it. And if we Christian people would pray more for such things as that, we'd be better off. The whole country would. Yes, great men, they give their lives just trying to fight back at those things that cripple children and everything. Certainly. I certainly thank God for everything He's done for us. I thank God for an automobile. I thank God for soap to wash my hands with. And all the mechanics, all those things, I thank God for them. Certainly. There's one time we didn't have soap, you know. There's one time we didn't have an automobile. If I wanted to walk over to Phoenix I could take off, but I thank God for an automobile. I get in and trust Him, right down the road as hard as I can go. See? So we thank the Lord for those things. All things that's good to help us comes from God. Certainly.” [Why? Beaumont, TX 61-0125]
“Some woman said to me some time ago, said, "What about, then, what're you going to say about penicillin for the flu?" "Well," I said, "penicillin is just like you had your house full of rats. They was eating holes everywhere, and you put out some rat poison, and poison the rats. That don't patch the holes. That's right. Penicillin only kills the germ. It doesn't patch the holes, or build up the tissue that it tore down. It takes God, the Healer, to do that. He's the Lord who heals all of our diseases. Certainly, I believe that, and I'm thankful to God for these toxins, and the Salk vaccine. And it's a dangerous thing to not take it. The little children, and things, to get inoculation, what would we do without such? Now, everybody can't have faith for healing. They should, but they don't. So what would you do? You'd just have sickness, and, oh, it would be a terrible place if we had no hospitals, or things. It'd be an awful place if you didn't have hygiene, and so forth, health clinics, and what we have. We thank God for everything that we've got. Every good thing cometh from God. Certainly.” [Why? Phoenix, AZ 61-0128]
“There was a time when we didn't have toxin for typhoid fever, a time when we didn't have toxin for--the--the Salk vaccine and stuff like that, and--but now we got it. That's exactly. We got it now. Thank God for it.” [Why? Beaumont, TX 61-0125]
“You say, "Brother Branham, do you believe in medicines?" Why sure, certainly. They are God-given things; we believe that. But that ain't what heals you. What if we didn't have health and hygiene, what would we have? The way the people has accumulated on the earth today and how many things. If the hospital is not of God, then burn the thing down; it's antichrist. See? Sure, but it is of God. But they don't do no healing. They are just a place to keep you away, and to help you, try to keep you clean while you... If you are ever healed, God healed you.” [Why? Bloomington, IL 61-0413]
“There was a time when, the toxin, there wasn't any, and many people died from the diseases. But now you can be inoculated. There was a time when God's balm wasn't perfect, because it was drawn from the veins of animals, and it only covered sin. It didn't divorce it, but there's no excuse now. God one day made a toxin.” [Why? Shreveport, LA 60-1126]
“There was a time when there wasn't any toxin for smallpox. There was a time when the Salk vaccine for the children in polio, they didn't have that. But they got it now. They've got it.” [Why? Chautauqua, OH 59-0813]
